Delivered by the team who developed the Wakefield Risk and Resilience Framework, and based on more than twenty years work in this area, the training presents a new innovative way to build resilience into all provision for children and young people and to assess its impact on individuals and groups. Depending on local needs and drivers the training covers:

  • how to build resilience into commissioning and develop outcome measures that can be used across all services;
  • how to develop resources against the core competences for resilience;
  • how to identify and address areas where more work may need to be done with individuals and groups;
  • the background to our work on resilience and what the evidence tells us;
  • tools to assess the impact of interventions.

The training is typically delivered to groups of professionals from different areas of Children and Young People provision in a locality, thereby allowing a space to share practice and build networks as well as find out about resilience.

The Wakefield Risk and Resilience Framework is designed to be used by practitioners working in a range of universal and targeted with children and young people aged 0-19.   The work is underpinned by both national and international work on resilience and primary research in the area with parents, practitioners, and children and young people. The research and subsequent development was focused on the public health outcome areas of safety, teenage pregnancy and sexual health, smoking, drug and alcohol use, and nutrition.
